TIPS + TIDBITS: COLOR-BLOCK OR BUST

This month we’re talking color-blocking. You might be familiar with this term as it’s used in fashion, but it’s one of the best ways to create impact in spaces as well. We’ll share our tips for successful color-blocking, as well as a sneak peak at our newest showroom project for Uniqlo, which uses that same technique.

COLOR-BLOCKING: AN EASY WAY TO DESIGN A ROOM

Color-blocking is a great way to anchor a room or create a quick update. Here are some of our top tips for achieving color-blocking perfection in your space:

1. Think monochromatic. When color-blocking, the easiest way to create the ‘block’ is to paint a wall. The trick is that what goes in front of that wall, and on the floor, should be in a similar tone (otherwise this simply becomes a feature wall!).

2. Color-blocking can be neutral. If you like bold colors, that’s great! If earth-tones are more your speed, that doesn’t mean color-blocking is off the table. This technique can be used in almost any color – including the full spectrum of neutrals.

3. Go big – or small! An entire wall can be color-blocked, or just a small section. Choose an area of one wall, or even paint a bookshelf and style it with similarly colored objects to just dip your toe in the water. If painting isn’t your thing, try it with an area rug as the block, and choose similar colors for everything that is placed on top of it.
